Why pruning matters
Healthy trees don't happen by accident
Proper pruning is one of the most important investments you can make in your property. Done right, it removes dead or weakened branches before they become hazards, improves airflow through the canopy, and encourages strong, balanced growth. Done poorly — or skipped altogether — trees become structurally compromised over time. At ABC Tree Service, every pruning job starts with an honest assessment of what the tree actually needs. We don't cut more than necessary, and we don't upsell work that isn't warranted. That straightforward approach is what's kept our clients coming back for three decades.
Our approach
What sets our pruning work apart
Crown cleaning & thinning
We selectively remove dead, diseased, and crossing branches to reduce canopy density and let light and air reach the interior of the tree — without stripping it of its natural shape.
Structural & hazard pruning
We identify and address weak branch unions, co-dominant leaders, and overextended limbs that pose a risk to your home, fence, or power lines before a storm makes the decision for you.
Elevation & clearance cuts
Raising the canopy improves sightlines, reduces shade on turf and garden beds, and keeps branches clear of rooflines, walkways, and vehicles — all while preserving the tree's long-term health.

Common questions
Tree pruning — what you should know
When is the best time of year to prune trees in Houston?
For most species in the Houston area, late winter — just before new spring growth — is the ideal window. That said, dead or hazardous branches should be removed as soon as they're identified, regardless of season. Some flowering trees are best pruned right after they bloom. When you contact us, we'll factor in the specific species and condition of your trees before scheduling.
How often do my trees need to be pruned?
Most mature trees benefit from a professional pruning every 3 to 5 years, though younger trees may need more frequent attention to establish good structure. Trees near structures, power lines, or high-traffic areas may warrant annual check-ins. We can recommend a maintenance schedule after evaluating your property.
Will pruning hurt my trees?
Proper pruning does not harm healthy trees — it supports them. The key is making clean cuts at the right locations and avoiding the removal of more than about 25% of the live canopy at one time. We follow industry-standard practices to minimize stress on the tree and encourage healthy regrowth.
Do you clean up after the job?
Yes. We haul away all branches, brush, and debris as part of every pruning job. Your yard will be left clean when we're done.
Can you prune trees near power lines?
We can prune branches in close proximity to power lines, but work that requires direct contact with energized lines must be performed by the utility company. If your trees are growing into utility lines, we'll let you know what we can safely handle and advise you on next steps for the rest.
Do you offer pruning for commercial properties and HOAs?
Yes. We regularly work with HOAs and commercial property owners throughout Central Houston. We can accommodate larger scopes of work and recurring maintenance schedules. Reach out to discuss your property's needs and we'll put together a plan that works for your timeline and budget.
